List of Colorado Home-Rule Cities that Self-collect Sales and Use Tax – Updated
Published: December 7th, 2020
There are currently 71 self-collecting home-rule jurisdictions (towns and cities). That number will change to 70 as Cañon City becomes a state-collected jurisdiction effective January 1, 2021.
Colorado differs from most states when it comes to sales and use tax. Local municipalities may self-collect under their home-rule charters rather than having the Colorado Department of Revenue administer their tax laws. This results in multiple registrations and varied regulations unique to each of the 71 jurisdictions.
Alamosa dropped its self-collecting home-rule status and became state-collected effective July 1, 2019.
