Hello. My name is Mallery Wood, and I am an owner of Integrated Consulting Partners, LLC. We are a consulting firm that offers both accounting/sales and use tax consulting and operations consulting. I have a Bachelor’s Degree and Masters Degree in Accounting with a concentration in tax, 10.5 years experience working for the City and County of Denver as a Sales Tax Auditor and a Tax Audit Supervisor, and several other fun qualifications. But that is for the next blog…Today, please join me for an appreciation post celebrating the former Director of Sales Tax at Sales Tax Colorado LLC, Alan Smith.

“Don’t Just

Don’t just learn, experience.
Don’t just read, absorb.
Don’t just change, transform.
Don’t just relate, advocate.
Don’t just promise, prove.
Don’t just criticize, encourage.
Don’t just think, ponder.
Don’t just take, give.
Don’t just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don’t just hear, listen.
Don’t just talk, act.
Don’t just tell, show.
Don’t just exist, live.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

The above quote is the most apt way I have found to summarize Alan Smith. Armed with tax experience, a missionary’s heart and a passion for helping people, he set out to create a company whose main pillars were: “helping, informing, serving others. It’s what I do. It’s who I am.” From that succinct and servant-hearted motto came Sales Tax Colorado LLC. Alan has spent the greater part of 15 years assisting taxpayers with a wide range of sales and use tax needs, from simply answering questions for those new to the world of tax, to helping taxpayers defend their positions against unfounded audit claims, to even helping shape the legal tax landscape by challenging unfair or burdensome tax laws. Alan has served this community as a champion for fair, accurate and common-sense taxation.

It is with more gratitude than words can express that I have been lucky enough to have Alan as a mentor for the last year. My career with Denver ended with a move to California that left me a bit adrift and aiming to refocus. Through a mutual connection I was blessed to be re-introduced to Alan. Seeming to sense my passion for people and love of accounting, Alan graciously took me under his wing and shared with me his vision for Sales Tax Colorado LLC. I began working as part of Alan’s team and with his support and encouragement have been able to take up his mantle of helping, informing, and serving. Through many of our conversations a common thread from Alan was his desire for more. More help, more of a life even more well-lived through more service to others. And so it is with immense gratitude to and excitement for Alan that I ask for you to join me in wishing him the very best in the next chapter of life. Sales Tax Colorado LLC is now proudly owned and operated by Integrated Consulting Partners, LLC. Alan will remain a guiding pillar of Sales Tax Colorado, assisting clients in a limited capacity that allows for a life of more service, and will be pursuing serval charitable and humanitarian efforts outside of the company.

Alan, thank you. Thank you for your service to this community. Thank you for your guidance and support. Thank you for encouraging me to take this leap of faith in you, myself, and my company. Thank you for trusting me with the incredible company you have created. I hope your next chapter is full of everything you’re wanting, and I cannot wait to hear about the amazing impact you will continue to have in this life.
