Looking to file sales tax returns for Home-Rule cities in Colorado?

by | Jan 11, 2023 | Sales Tax Tips

Companies doing business in Colorado have multiple requirements and options when it comes to filing sales and use tax returns.

The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) collects all State sales tax as well as local sales tax for state-administered local cities, towns, counties and special districts that have a sales tax.  Home-rule jurisdictions generally require their own licensing, but many have opted to also allow remittance through the DOR’s SUTS Portal.

If you’re looking to remit to the home-rule jurisdictions directly rather than through SUTS, you can use our Revenue Department Resources page to get links to their sales and use tax pages more information.  Many use MUNIRevs for their online return filing portal.  For a list of jurisdictions using MUNIRevs (now GovOS) and links to their specific filing portals, click MUNIRevs.

For more information about from the DOR about SUTS, click the link: https://tax.colorado.gov/SUTS-info

NOTE: Use tax might be handled on a separate return, and the DOR does not collect use tax for cities, towns and counties.
