Colorado Sales & Use Tax Rate and Exemption Changes Effective 1/1/2024

Many local jurisdictions have made sales and use tax or exemption changes effective January 1, 2024. The Colorado Department of Revenue has posted a list here:

Self-collecting home-rule jurisdiction changes:

  • Currently there are 66 self-collecting home-rule cities in Colorado.

  • Carbondale and Edgewater have both switched to State-Collected effective 1/1/2024.

Handling sales and use tax properly in Colorado can be very difficult. Varying requirements and taxability between State-collected jurisdictions and self-administered home-rule jurisdictions is a significant reason. A number of our posts address the issues in more detail, but here is an overview.
