Position: Part-Time Sales Tax Associate
Sales Tax Colorado is a growing, Colorado local, national practice accounting and sales and use tax firm. Our team is highly specialized in sales and use tax matters and accounting needs of our clients. Our professionals handle multi-state issues with a special focus on Colorado State taxation regulations. Sales Tax Colorado was founded on a business model that emphasizes effectiveness, accountability and client-driven value. We work with a variety of industries including advertising, construction, financial services, hotel, internet sales, IT services, oil and gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, restaurant, retail, software, telecommunications, and others.
Our boutique accounting and consulting firm is looking for a part-time Sales Tax Associate to join our team. The primary responsibilities of this position include the recurring compliance of sales and use tax filings. This may also include assigned projects related to sales and use tax filings like reconciling prior period returns, amending returns, and other cleanup projects as needed. An accounting degree is required.
This is a remote position for 20 hours per week with the potential for increased hours. The candidate must be located in Colorado. The starting pay range is $30-$40 per hour depending on experience. Please include salary range requirements when submitting your resume.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Client Administrative Tax Duties
- Logging and tracking jurisdictional tax correspondence related to clients’ sales tax accounts
- Preparation of sales tax exemption documents for clients
- Other special client projects as assigned
- Registration of new locations depending on clients’ needs
- Preparing Power of Attorney forms as needed
- Business license renewals as needed
- Account notification monitoring
Client Recurring Systems Work
- Processing client sales data to determine sales tax liability depending on the client’s filing frequency
- Filing sales tax with each jurisdiction on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis
- Resolution of monthly tax system errors
- Monthly review of state sales tax portals for clients
- Data entry of customer exemption certificates
Special Project Work
- Reviewing client sales data to determine whether economic nexus and/or sales tax liability exists
- Sales/use tax cleanup projects
- Assisting clients with sales/use/BPP tax audits
- Legal research related to product/service taxability and state/local taxability matrices
- Product compatibility research for API tools and software
Internal Duties
- Other internal projects and assignments as needed to support the company
- Internal meetings and activities
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting (minimum two years of accounting course work required)
- 2+ years of relevant sales tax experience
- Familiarity with sales and use taxes within Colorado and in other states
- Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Planner)
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate good judgment, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Positive, no-task-too-small attitude
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Excise tax audit experience with state, local, or private audits
- QuickBooks Online experience
- Experience with other accounting software like Xero
- Willingness to learn and adapt
- Proactive work ethic
